Recipe for the Perfect Puppy

Ingredients you will need for a new Puppy

1 Puppy

1 crate that will be large enough when puppy is fully grown

1 blanket or soft bed for inside crate

2 bowls

1 brush

1 fenced section

Toys and things to chew on

Puppy food or raw ingredience to make puppy food i.e. mince, veges, bones, chunks of raw meat, supplements

Training treats

Water

Worm tablets and flea control

No more than 20 mins walk and plenty of play time

Daily socialisation and new experiences

Love, cuddles and pats

Consistent training of basic commands like sit, down, stay, heel

 

1)    Take one puppy.

2)    Set up crate in warm, draught free spot and place bed inside.

3)    Take puppy outside to area that is designated for toileting. Give command for peeing i.e. ‘go wees’. Give praise when performs “ Good girl”

4)    Feed breakfast and fresh filtered water in bowls in area designated for eating or crate.

5)    Repeat step 3

6)    Take toys and play with puppy or let him play for a couple of hours. The play session can also include a walk on the lead, basic training session and if /when old enough can also include trips to a park, visiting friends and their dogs or other life experiences. Include also a brush, face/eye and bottom wash if necessary and handling of his paws. Have a check over his body daily for anything out of the ordinary. If he still looks perky give him a bone or chew toy. When tired repeat step 3 and put puppy back in the crate for a sleep. When he awakes…

7)    Repeat step 3

8)    Feed lunch and fresh filtered water in area designated for eating or crate.

9)    Repeat step 3

10) Repeat step 6

11) Repeat step 3

12) Feed dinner and fresh filtered water in area designated for eating or crate.

13) Repeat step 3

14) Repeat step 6 ensuring puppy repeats step 3 before retiring for the night. A puppy can hold on for 1 hour per month of age, so you may need to repeat step 3 at 2-3 am and return to the crate immediately.

15) Worm every 2 weeks until 12 weeks and once a month until 6 months then 3-6 monthly

16) De-flea monthly or every 2 months as determined by the flea treatment packet.

17) Vaccinate according to veterinarians instructions.

18) Seek qualified people for areas that are not going as planned i.e.  If puppy is unwell talk to your vet. If there are training issues seek out a qualified dog trainer. If your dog needs a specialist groom, seek out a good groomer or a mobile dog wash if you are unable to bath him at home.

19) If you are not at home during the day to follow step 6-11 give us a call and either consider Doggy Day Care or Dog Walking/playing service for the middle of the day.

20) Sprinkle day with liberal amounts of love, cuddles and pats, consistent training of basic commands like sit, down, stay, heel, playing, socialization, chewing, and new experiences.
