Stories from Pet Sitting visits

Pet Sitting in Bethlehem, Tauranga - Lisa

I was looking after 2 pussy cats in Bethlehem, Tauranga, who I have looked after a number of times. They like to get into the roof of the house through a doorway from the wardrobe. It was lovely and warm in the ceiling and they would snuggle in the insulation bats. It struck me on one visit that this may not be a good thing, as the people who install the bats wear all sorts of protective clothing and masks. The cats would be not only be breathing and touching these but also ingesting them when they lick themselves clean.
I rang the Insulation Batts people and their comments were that the batts had just been downgraded from carcinogenic to the next level down. He said that if they were his kitties he definitely would not be letting them sleep in the batts. I rang and spoke to the owner and we decided to shut the door that leads to the ceiling and not to let them in there again.
These are 2 lovely kitties and I was very glad I rang and got this information both for them and for other people.

Pet Sitting in Hamilton - Alana

I had a client that had left organising care for his lovely dog until the last second and did not have time for me to call round and meet him and go through the routine before he and his family left for their long weekend. We discussed what was required over the ph and he told me where everything was and where the key would be. I arrived to find a lovely girl, who was so excited to see me, even more so when I told her we were going for a walk. Only problem was I couldn't find her lead anywhere. She was racing all round the house with me, then darting back to the door ready to go. I was standing in the kitchen when she came in and scratched a one of the draws, I pulled it open and another one of her collars was in there, I told her what a good girl she was and explained that I still needed her lead, she then scratched at the bottom one, which I opened and she shoved her nose in and rattled around until she found it at the bottom under papers. She picked it up in her mouth and raced to the door! What an amazing girl, definitely going to be a pleasure to look after her.

Dog Walking in Mt. Maunganui- Jenny

I went to walk a dog yesterday and when I pulled up I could hear the dog Jess crying and barking which I thought was unusual. She is normally quiet and never makes a sound when I arrive. When I opened the front door I was hit by a house full of smoke. Jess came running out of the house and I rushed inside and discovered that an element had been left on in the kitchen and the contents of a saucepan on it was bellowing out smoke. I turned the element off and put the saucepan into water. I rang the owner and she said it must of been the flatmate. I asked if I could open all the doors and windows while I was out walking Jess and she was very happy to do that. (My friends actually live right next door and were at home so I got them to keep an eye on the property while I was gone).

I dread to think that if I had arrived later to take lovely Jess out for her walk it could have been very different......Right place right time!!

Pet Sitting in Mt. Maunganui- Jenny

I have been looking after a lovely cat called Cheeky fairly regularily since July last year and recently there was another cat staying in the house temporarily. The visiting cat Sass was to be left inside the house. Cheeky cat who lives outside in the downstairs garage and sleep out is a little bit of a bully and so they needed to remain separated. On my first visit Sass was happy and warmed to me nicely. I had noticed that a cat flap off the lounge had been blocked off by some cushions to stop Sass getting outside. The next day I went to see Sass inside and couldn't find her anywhere. I searched high and low and assumed she just had a really good hiding place and choose to ignore me. I checked the baracaded cat flap and it didn't look as though she had been able to get outside. When I went to leave I thought I would just make sure she hadn't gotten outside somehow. Funnily enough Cheeky actually ran up to the top deck and went to jump up onto the roof. It was as though she was trying to show me something. I followed her and found a very frightened, vocal Sass sitting on the roof pleading for me to save her from Cheeky who was ready to pounce on her. Luckily Sass came to me and I managed to climb up and get her down. I put her safely back inside. She immediately went to the cat flap and put her paw on one of the cushions. It was very evident that she had escaped this way so I made sure this couldn't happen again. Cheeky sat outside the window and teased Sass through glass. Thankfully this was now as close as she could get and Sass was safe and not being bullied.

Pet Sitting in Tauranga- Lisa

I have a number of clients that are admitted to hospital at short notice, as they are elderly or unwell.I will typically get a phone call from a relative or neighbour to ask me to take over the care of their pets until they are back home.  I got one such call from a relative of one of my clients to say to visit and feed her kitty starting the next day. When I went to the house there was no sign of Maggie in the room I feed her in or the garden. I walked around calling her and then noticed she was standing at the front door which was opaque glass, meowing. She had been locked inside. A quick check of all the doors and windows revealed that a toilet window had been left open. This was quite a small window and fairly high up, so using the rubbish bin I had to get in from the outside. Maggie was very pleased to see me and I was able to put her out, secure the house and find a key to get out and lock up." I really appreciated the wonderful service you provided while I was in Hospital. Having to get into the house and rescue "Maggie" through the toilet window and all the extras you did was really a sterling-top of the range job. Words don’t cover how much I have to thank you for. It was GREAT."
